This is a three-day intensive workshop series for high school students passionate about medical science, gene therapeutics, and other advanced biological topics. Students will learn how slight genetic differences can impact how well a patient responds to certain medications and explore how future physicians may use DNA sequencing to inform clinical decision-making. Students will examine how variations in a gene influence individuals’ abilities to taste the bitter compound “PTC” and then compare these tiny differences to those responsible for variations in drug metabolism. Experience with high-level lab work, including using a micropipette, is encouraged but not required.
Deadline: Please register by May 26.
